A Path To Lifelong Wellness – Pure ProActive isn’t a diet, it’s a lifestyle! It’s looking good and feeling good from the inside out! I’ve led a pretty healthy lifestyle in the recent years, I already ate organic, knew a lot about nutrition and worked out alot. But when the opportunity to try the Pure program came up, I jumped at it. And so glad I did. I’ve learned more about my health, my body, nutrition, that really opened my eyes. I completely switched every product for a natural one, and followed the eating plan to a tee. In just one week of level one, it looked as if I had been working out 5 days a week, 3 hrs a day for about 3 months! Serious.

Now I’m happily in level 2 and really in tune with how my body is reacting to certain foods. I have had a problem with maintenance in the past, and so far, so good, I am optimistic I will be able to carry this on for a very long time. No caffeine, no alcohol, not even craving sugar or carbs and my energy level is absolutely through the roof. I’ve been hitting the gym, long walks on the beach, bike rides and hikes, I’ve literally become so active and focused in life! Looking good but feeling even better. Thank you Pure for changing my life, and thank you Lauren, the best coach and friend…and even from my home state of Wisconsin!! It was fate =)

Highly recommend it guys! It will change your life, for the better.

Fei-Fei

ROCK out like SAUERKRAUT!!

“Trying to regain my health by using a product and a service that my friend Dr. Billy Ferro and my friend Amber recommended. It’s called Pure Proactive and it made sense from an endocrine and thyroid kind of way when Dr. FERRO explained how it resets one’s system. I have a lot of thyroid and endocrine problems and just had double hip replacement, which was following 10 years of pain so I am really fighting to come back but can’t use my old ways. I’m posting this on Day 3… Down to 155!!!”

“So here ya go. That’s my before (that I was embarrased of showing on your facebook page). My after (middle) shows the way I looked after I graduated (summer 2007). I was working two times a day and eating like a bodybuilder. The issue was this was all I knew so, when I couldn’t keep it up the pic from Jan 2012 is what I looked like. After your help I went from 187 to 162 in 31 days (10 day cleanse and level 1)”

A new study suggests that even subtle changes in sleep patterns can cause weight gain. This phenomenon, most commonly seen in individuals whose sleep habits change during the weekends, has been termed “social jet lag” by researcher Till Roenneberg.

Individuals who suffer from “social jet lag” were found to have a lower metabolism, burning fewer calories at rest. These changes in sleep patterns typically happen as a result of increased social activity and the ability to sleep in on weekends. This throws off sleep rhythms, causing the body to feel like it is changing time zones, hence “social jet lag”.

Sometimes “social jet lag” is avoidable, but other times it is not. Shift workers, for instance, have very little control over their schedules if they want to stay employed, that is. The problem here is that our social clocks are not always governed by our biological clocks.

Each hour of change in sleep was found to yield more weight gain, however other factors were also at play. For instance, those who experience wide ranges in sleep patterns are also more likely to consume alcohol, smoke and reach for those late night snacks. Despite this fact, it is reasonable to believe that sleep changes can have a negative impact on the body’s waistline, independent of other factors.

<g:plusone href="http://pureproactive.com/wheat-is-under-attack-but-not-without-good-reason/"></g:plusone>

Wheat, even whole wheat, is under attack and you should know why. The world produces 682 tons of wheat annually. It has become a staple of our diets, can be found in virtually any food and is recommended for 6 – 11 servings daily!

However, a segment of experts, many of whom are doctors, believe that wheat is far less healthy than advertised. In fact, most of them have produced evidence that consumption of wheat is downright dangerous over the long term, but it probably isn’t what you think. These are not just extremists, vegans and celiac sufferers complaining about gluten.

Sure, gluten is factored into the argument against wheat, but it goes so much further than that. Anti-wheat experts and their devout following have built their case on blood sugar, capacity for addiction, malnutrition, inflammation, disease promotion and toxic practices.

Here are some of the reasons why wheat is under attack:

Foods made from wheat or wheat flour raise blood sugar higher than sucrose (table sugar) and most candy. Sugar is one of the most dangerous substances to our health. High blood sugar is known to cause excess fat, diabetes, cataracts, arthritis, cancer, heart disease and other means of slow, painful death.

A protein in wheat, gliadin, has the ability to bind to morphine receptors in the brain which has been linked to wheat addiction and increased desire for foods containing wheat.

Today’s wheat is significantly lower in protein and micronutrients than it was just 40 years ago.

Wheat is a known contributor to inflammation, increased appetite, pH imbalance, hair loss, bone issues, ADD, acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, leg swelling and numbness, trouble thinking, insomnia, unstable emotions, joint pain and obesity. The 1,000 other proteins in wheat are thought to be responsible.

Non-organic wheat can be grown with the use of sewage sludge, opening it up to heavy metal and E. coli contamination.

All of this and we haven’t even gotten to the gluten, which triggers immune diseases like celiac, rheumatoid arthritis and some forms of dementia.

The argument of these experts can be boiled down to the idea that the hybridization of wheat has transformed this once beneficial plant into something very harmful. Genetically, today’s wheat is a very different plant than it was even 40 years ago.

So is wheat under attack or doing the attacking?

If anything you read here touched you, feel free to give up wheat for a week or two and see how you feel. Then try some wheat and again pay close attention to your body. Sometimes mindfulness is the best medicine. As for us, all of this writing has made us hungry, so who wants a bagel? (kidding!)

Wearing shoes keeps you from being connected to the earths free electrons. UV light and chemicals attack your body’s cells and try and steal electrons. If they are successful, they create free radicals that start attacking many cells, causing DNA damage and leaving debris. You can replace or donate missing electrons to cells and stop the damage by going barefoot and eating foods with good vitamins since vitamins donate electrons also.

This is how to stay healthy from the inside out. Notice the SPF shirts and the zinc to block rays that cause free radicals.

Low intensity exercise is highly recommended on Level One of the PureProActive.com plan. It’s important to keep your HR below 120 as a standard rule. From all the good clean food you are eating, your body will have just enough calories to energize you but be short enough calories to start burning stored energy “fat”. If you exercise too intensely, your body will go into “starvation” mode and shut down fat metabolism. Working out with a personal training, pilates/yoga instructor will ensure your breathing, heart rate and technique are stimulating you not annihilating you. Remember to stay in touch with your personal coach from PureProActive.com if you have any questions or concerns.

Two studies recently found that while fast food restaurants are more prevalent in urban areas, so are full service restaurants and grocery stores. The thought has always been that there is a fundamental problem with access to quality foods in urban areas. As a result, a huge movement has started around creating more access to better food. To be clear, we are on board with this 100%, but this study opened the doors to talk about another fundamental problem – poor information about food. Many people in our country, urban area or not, count french fries in their veggie servings for the day. They are poorly informed about what is healthy and how to live a healthy lifestyle, often wasting perfectly good access to produce. In other words, access without knowledge is worthless.

Supply Follows Demand. Demand Follows Knowledge.

We continue to cheer on those fighting for access like our friends over at Growing Power in Milwaukee and Chicago. While they fight that battle, we focus on what very well may be the true cause of a low access symptom, education. We believe that America really needs proper education about what is and is not healthy. They need to know that they can eat organic for the same price that they are spending on other foods now. They need to know the gory details about what that fast food burger will do to them and the glorious outcome of a healthy diet. Supply follows demand, not the other way around, so if we create demand through knowledge, we believe that supply will follow.

The Vast Food Desert

There is still one food desert, however that needs access immediately. While school lunch quality has gotten slightly better in recent years, it is still a major point of concern. We continue feeding our children low quality foods and teaching them to consume poor foods on a daily basis. We need our children to expect quality foods from their schools and in turn, their parents.

This country needs to know about the food it is eating. For adults, this needs to come from our government, friends and organizations who care. For our children, schools need to teach through habit. They need to feed our children quality, nutritious food that leads to demand for it at home and in our communities. Only then will we stop seeing this desert and begin cultivating the food jungle around us.

This spring set the intention to eat more foods that are in season. Spring is time for renewal and growth. Open-air farmer’s markets blossom everywhere, making more locally grown, in-season foods, readily available. Eating with the seasons makes sense for so many reasons, but namely two, it’s healthier for the human body and the earth. Eating a hydrating, cooling watermelon, crisp with electrolytes wouldn’t make the greatest of sense in the dead of winter. Think about it this way, nature has taken care of most your meal planning!

Foods that are consumed in-season are at their peak of nutrition, offering optimal nutrition and energy for that season. In spring it’s important to consume dark leafy vegetables that represent the cleansing season. Dark leafy greens offer a certain astringency that help detox the body and flush out mucus accumulated over the winter season. These plants grow upward and outward offering light, flexible energy. In summer, opt for hydrating and cooling foods like berries, melons, apples, pears, plums, summer squash, cucumbers, celery and herbs like peppermint, parsley and cilantro. Seek warming, grounding foods in the fall like carrots, sweet potatoes, onions and garlic. Invigorating spices like pepper, ginger, cinnamon and mustard also warm the body. Lastly, turn to more proteins and vegetables in the winter months, as they are even more warming. Shoot for root vegetables like carrots, burdock and parsnips. Nuts and eggs are also considered warming. A rule of thumb when differentiating between cooling and warming foods is the time required to grow. Foods that generally take longer to grow have more of a warming effect.

From an environmental point of view, eating local and in-season puts less stress on the earth and reduces your carbon footprint, the sum of all the greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. The modern grocery market knows no season. Fruits and vegetables, of all seasons, can be purchased at anytime, but at a cost. Grapes from Chile have to be shipped from miles away. Coconuts shipped from Thailand demand great packaging and transportation costs. The fuel alone is costly and harmful to the environment. Eating locally grown foods greatly reduces this transportation cost and supports the local economy. Here are a few tips to initiate a localvore lifestyle.

1. Learn where your food comes from – support your local farmer’s market. Go to www.thelocalbeet.com to find a Farmer’s Market near you.
2. Eat in season vegetables when eating out – opt for a seasonal menu.
3. Join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) like www.doortodoororganics.com
4. Grow a garden – big or small, growing your own food is a joyful and rewarding experience.
